Online Resources

One online source for the location of the present day airnav beacons and route maps is the Microsoft Flight Simulator community [fltsim] websites. This civil flight simulator uses scenery and navigation from real world data, eg the fltsim version of RW16R at Sydney's Mascot airport closely matches the real world version in all details. This includes the radio navigation aids such as the ILS and VOR / DME, all of which are correctly positioned as they are at the real airport.

As such, the fltsim scenery text files list the radio aids available as well as details such as their range, frequencies and lat / long locations.

Australian navigation charts are obtainable from Airservices Australia.  These include airport approach and departure procedures as well as airfield data.

The serious online researcher might find it useful to link into the "aus.aviation" newsgroup. The archives are available at Google Groups

Excellent online tutorials are available at Flight Simulator Navigation Included are such topics as; D/F, VOR and NDB.
